The SEMTECH® CPN continuously measures condensation particle number down to 23nm in real-time, in a package designed for on-board measurements. The switchable SEMTECH® CPN 23|10 extends the measurement down to 10nm through a user selectable flow path and software switch. Both systems can operate continuously for extended periods without maintenance. A heated line delivers the sample to a catalytic volatile particle remover, dilutes the aerosol, and counts the particles by butanol condensation. These modules operate as a stand-alone device and are compatible with the SEMTECH® DS+ portable emissions measurement system (PEMS).
The CPN sample is diluted under hot conditions prior to entering a catalytic volatile particle remover (VPR), so as to strip the volatile components from the exhaust sample. The resulting aerosol is again diluted prior to entering the measurement chamber. The mixing type condensation particle counter is then used to count the particles by butanol condensation.
