SLOW-RUNNING “Y COUPLING” FOR GENTLE COMPENSATION OF THE GREATEST RADIAL DISPLACEMENTENDEN
The “Y coupling” was developed to compensate very large radial displacements of plant parts without creating large reset forces on the corresponding shaft bearings.
The “Y coupling” is a torsionally flexible coupling which compensates the radial displacements that arise not through distension of the elastic elements but through a displacement of the geometrical arrangement of the individual parts in the interior of the coupling.
The torque is partly transmitted via exterior wire ropes, which means very large torques (> 1,000,000 Nm) can be transmitted. Couplings of this construction are used mostly in low-rotation applications with very high torques, for example in agriculture (sugar cane industry) and mining.
