Designed for testing concrete, rocks and other large specimens for compression. This model can be used simultaneously with Model 3542RA extensometers. These extensometers measure the change in circumference when a sample is compressed. Many researchers believe that this is a more accurate way to determine the diametral strain, since the measurement is taken over the entire material inside the circle.
The extensometer is mounted on the specimen using a custom made high precision roller chain. The chain increases the diameter of the extensometer during the test. The extensometer is supported on the specimen by means of springs. Modifications to the Model 3544 are available for in-vessel installation and oil service up to 1360 bar at 200°C. The Model 3544 is the best choice for measuring large diametral strains.
Model 3544 extensometers are strain gauge devices, making them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gauge transducers.
