SDV7 and SDV-R arc-resistant and non-arc-resistant, outdoor, distribution circuit breakers are offered with voltage ratings from 15.5 - 38 kV, rated short-time withstand current up to 40 kA, rated continuous current up to 3,000 A, and lightning impulse (BIL) up to 200 kV. From the original SDV introduced in the early 1980s to today’s SDV7TM and SDV-RTM circuit breakers, the product line has been continually expanded to include higher ratings, reduced footprint, enhanced personnel safety features, and environmentally responsible options. The design of the type SDV7 family of circuit breakers features a significant reduction in enclosure size compared to previous models and, consequently, in the overall footprint. The type SDV7 product line encompasses the voltage groups 15.5 kV, 17.5 kV, 27.6 kV and 38.0 kV. Each group is specifically designed to optimize space and material for the voltage class while retaining common features across the entire product line. The design of the type SDV-R family of circuit breakers retains the features that have made the SDV7 family successful while adding fast-acting grounding capability. The voltage rating is focused at the 38.0 kV level to match the common renewables applications where the circuit breakers are used combined with the highest interrupting rating in the industry.
