In RF technology loads are used to absorb the RF power of a signal source. For the power range from 2 to 2,500 watts these are loads in planar technique with a passive cooling system. For the power range between 5 and 50 kW loads with liquid cooling are used. The coolant is mainly demineralised water or a recommended mixture with antifreeze that also ensures corrosion protection. Between 10 and 50 kW loads are also available with a closed coolant circuit with heat exchanger and interlock contacts such as carrier safety loops or temperature monitoring. In measurement and transmission lines symmetric or asymmetric attenuators are used to reduce the RF power of a source. Their structure and function is very similar to loads, and they are available for power ratings up to 2 kW with attenuation values of 10, 20, 30, and 40 dB.
