Locking is always necessary or advisable if the application must be protected against unintentional adjustment or if forces act on the application that exceed the extension force of the spring. The locking of the gas spring with internal locking is comparable to the mechanism of ballpoint pens: the extended gas spring is first pushed in slightly, which locks it in place.
