QICPIC & FIBORS is specially designed for gentle separation of fibers and subsequent analysis with dynamic image analysis. Fiber parameters such as length, width or straightness are automatically measured from dry fibers with lengths of 500 - 30,000 µm. High efficiency and throughput of the separation is obtained by the well known and proven method for cotton spinning: combing and carding. FIBROS is using a card and a rotating brush (as comb) on top of a laboratory sieve. The primary fibre wads are kept in movement by a an airflow from slit nozzle rotating underneath the sieve. The separated fibres are sucked though the meshes of sieve into a fallshaft and presented to the object plane of the QICPIC. A pulsed LED optically freezes the fibers with illumination times in the nanosecond range, while a high-speed, high-resolution camera captures the fiber projections in pin-sharp detail at a frequency of up to 500 frames per second. Several thousand fibers are precisely determined with regard to fiber length, fiber diameter, straightness or elongation in a measurement of just a few minutes. The PAQXOS control and evaluation software regulates the measurement and dispersion parameters adapted to the fibers and enables the determination of all important size and shape characteristics.
