DC Chokes are used in most switched-mode power supplies. It is their task to smooth the pulsating direct current by storing energy during the "ON" duty cycle and maintaining the current flow in the load circuit in the "OFF" cycle. Inductances with high direct current preloading capability are required. Output chokes in modern power supplies therefore have to meet stringent requirements, such as high storage energy in small component volumes and low losses at high switching frequencies. Moreover, a low-cost design is generally required.
