The standard ventilated clutch is used with flexible couplings, in order to offer reliable in-line power transmission. It has an air-tube design that is very simple, having low air volume and a high engagement and disengagement speed. It is not affected by any centrifugal force and will not need self-energization like a drum clutch design. It is suitable for high inertia loads like propulsion drives. The clutch has all the good features of the disc type clutch design and all the advantages of direct air engagement. It is a trouble-free drive. It is all speed and smoothness in a compact design in a marine environment.
