Zwick's Semi-Automatic Testing Systems are generally utilized for glow-wire tests on plastics compliant with international IEC/EN 60695-2-12 GWFI or IEC/EN 60695-2-13 GWIT standards. The fire behavior of the plastics during these tests are calculated by means of glowing wires, pressed against circle-shaped test plats. Results are then incorporated in the plastics' properties as characteristic values.
The specimens of the systems are generally circle-shaped plastic test plates, with 85-mm diameters and 0.75-mm, 1,5-mm, or 3-mm thickness rates. Tissue papers placed under the specimens should not be ignited by burning embers.
The utilized glow wires sport operating temperature rates that range from 550 to 960°C. The upper limit of this temperature range is the highest possible temperature value that flaming components self-extinguish (within 30 seconds after glow-wire removal).
