Who we are
ULVAC is a company that mainly manufactures vacuum equipment for industrial and research facilities headquartered in Chigasaki City , Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan . It is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
"ULVAC" is a combination of "UL" from "Ultimate" and "VAC" from "Vacuum". The company aims to become "Ultimate in Vacuum Technology".
Ulvac has sales offices in America, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Russia, Turkey, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea and China.
Founded in Germany in 1987 as a European subsidiary of ULVAC Japan, Inc., ULVAC provides sales, service and support for the customers of the EMEA countries in Germany. The team based near Munich is thus the first of its kind in Europe.
The "Japan Vacuum Engineering Co. Ltd." was founded in August 1952 (capital: 6 million yen). Initially, various vacuum accessories were imported and resold. In 1955, the Omori factory for the production of equipment was first established inland, in 1959, the Yokohama plant was added. From 1960, large vacuum equipment was developed for heavy industry, such as vacuum melting furnaces and vacuum distillation equipment. In 1964, the first overseas cooperation was established in Hong Kong. In 1968, the headquarters in Chigasaki was completed.

In 1972, the establishment of the "Institute for Supermaterials" as the first full research institute of Ulvac. In 1975, Ulvac received an order from IBM for the "SYSTEM 731", the world's first computer-controlled, fully automated vacuum evaporation system. In 1986, the "MCH Series", the world's first multi-chamber sputtering system was developed, followed in 1988 by the "SHD Series", a sputtering system for the production of hard disks.
In 1990, the "Fuji Susono plant" was founded as a dedicated plant for semiconductor production facilities . One of the cornerstones of the FPD business was the introduction in 1992 of the special LCD production line "SMD Series". The establishment of a production base in China, as well as a service station in South Korea followed in 1995.
In 2001, the Institute of Semiconductor and Electronics Technologies was founded. The company name has been changed to ULVAC, Inc. 2004 was another significant year in the company's history: New headquarters buildings were completed for the development / prototype production of large LCD devices. In addition, the first listed shares were listed in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and another production base for vacuum full equipment was established in Suzhou, China. This was followed by a production facility for large LCD production plants in South Korea in 2005, and another in Taiwan in 2006. In 2007, the Chiba Tomisato plant for the development and production of materials was founded. An institute for super-materials was founded in 2011 in South Korea. In 2012, the company celebrated its 60th anniversary. In 2015, the "Future Technology Research Laboratory" was founded. In 2016, Ulvac began manufacturing large display production equipment. In 2018, the company celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Chigasaki headquarters.
